Ethiopia, a landlocked country in the Horn of Africa, has experienced its fair share of turbulence and turmoil. In 2022, Ethiopia's Human Development Index was 0.48, which puts the population, especially Ethiopian children, at a severe disadvantage. Even more alarmingly, 90% of the kids suffer from a lack of quality education , and 37% experience learning poverty.

88% of children and their families in Ethiopia, who mainly live in rural areas, don’t have the economic resources to be able to have access to clean water, food, and essential health services owing to poverty. The situation is even worse for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing individuals. They do not have access to basic tools and access to sign language interpreters for communication, let alone education. And their numbers are rising every minute. Sadly, these Deaf/Hard of Hearing children also face stigma, marginalization, and abuse, especially in rural areas.
